Artist Statement

Painting directly on pre-owned paper maps, my current body of work explores the interconnectedness of our lives. By deconstructing the maps and weaving them back together I am seeking to find new patterns or directions in our fragmented and interwoven lives; seeking harmony amongst the chaos and discord that surrounds us.

Previous work drew on a fascination with the processes of transition and transference. Using the projection of childhood memories onto evocative objects I investigated textiles’ ability to create a holding or containing environment for our emotions.

My earlier work was inspired by an interest in derelict and abandoned buildings, and industrial structures like pylons and jetties. I was fascinated with how the deterioration of their outer skin exposed the underlying structure of their construction and revealed their true identity.
